One thing Jamaicans will tell you is how much “dem love dem food.” No other food can touch ours, and we will be quick to defend this belief every time. As loyal as we are to our cuisine, we are just as serious about our snacks. These are the treats we ate as children and continue to enjoy as adults.

At National, we’re proud to provide products that have only increased in popularity over the years. Our buns, easily one of our most recognised products, have been a favourite snack item for Jamaicans across the globe for generations. Available in loaf form and as the smaller “penny” buns, these sweet treats are a staple in many Jamaican homes. There are those who prefer to have the loaf bun only during the Easter period because of its historical and cultural significance at that time. However, while it is a major part of our Easter celebrations, the loaf bun is now available throughout the year.

Different Logos, One Company, Same Great Taste

We are proud to provide Jamaicans at home and abroad with buns under the National and HTB brands. Each delivers a unique taste, but the same Jamaican flavour.

We’ve worked hard to make sure that you get the fresh, soft, quality you expect, with every bite. National has been a leader in the production of baked goods in Jamaica and the Caribbean for many years and we want to keep it that way.

Bun With What?

Jamaicans are pretty serious about their food and snacks and how they eat them. Many are strictly “Jamaican cheese only” when it comes to eating buns, and any other combination would be just wrong. We’ve found, though, that some Jamaicans have interesting ways that they enjoy our delicious buns. Here are some of the other foods that some will have with their HTB or National loaf buns:

  • Butter
  • Avocado
  • Sardines
  • Hot beverages
  • Cream cheese
  • Fried fish
  • Jams and other spreads
  • Patties

We’re not sure how some of these combinations originated, but they seem to be popular among some groups. Bun alone or with milk are also common options. Dunking bun in a glass of milk is even better. And then there are those who like to have their buns toasted!

Let us know what you think about these combinations and if you have any that didn’t make the list. You don’t have to wait until Easter — be sure to pick up a loaf the next time you’re out!
